Dale started his career as an apprentice at
Nottingham Forest and was part of the team that won the youth league
championship. He failed to secure a full time contract with the Reds
and dropped into non-league football with Hednesford Town.
He became one of Nigel Clough's first signings
when he joined the Brewers in March 1999, and he went on to quickly
become a fans favourite.
Although he had electrifying pace and quick feet,
his ability to put the ball in the net after his tricky runs was
less impressive.
However Dale will always be remembered for
scoring, arguably, one of the greatest ever Burton Albion goals.
With the Brewers leading 1-0 in a Unibond league match at home to
Hucknall Town, Dale picked up the ball 10 yards inside his own half.
What happened next becomes more fantastic every time someone
recounts the events, but those that were there will remember him
darting through the Hucknall half beating 4 or 5 players in the
process (some more than once!). The run ended with Dale rounding the
keeper before walking the ball into the net.
Dale was a key member of the team that won
promotion to the Conference but found himself less and less a
regular in the starting line up at the higher level.
He spent spells on loan at Northwich Victoria and
Moor Green, before making a permanent move to The Moors in the
summer of 2006.
