When Hornchurch fell into financial difficulties and were forced to release their senior players, Nigel Clough moved quickly to secure the services of Lee Elam. Lee had plenty of Conference experience with Southport, Morecambe, Halifax and Chester, as well as playing in the Football League with Yeovil Town, so many Albion fans were excited that a player with this background had joined the club.

It was also well known though that Elam was a player with a track record of jumping from club to club, chasing the money and so it was no surprise when he left the Brewers after just one game to re-join Morecambe.
