ARCHIVE NEWS - MAY 2006

BREWERS GET THE BLUES (24/05/06)

The already impressive line-up of pre-season football has been enhanced even further with the announcement that Birmingham City are to visit the Pirelli Stadium.

Steve Bruce's side will provide the opposition for the opening warm up game on Saturday 8th July.

The two sides faced each other in 2003 when the then Premiership side ran out 4-0 winners.

BULLS BACK IN THE BIG TIME (20/05/06)

Hereford United made a return to the Football League after defeating Halifax Town 3-2 in the Conference play-off final. In a thrilling match at the Walkers Stadium, home of Leicester City, the Bulls made up for two successive play-off defeats to play league football again for the first time since 1997.

The result will no doubt come as a relief to Staffordshire Constabulary who can look forward to a season without marauding Welshmen invading Burton.

FIRST SUMMER SIGNING (17/05/06)

The preparations for next season are well underway with the arrival of midfielder Lee Fowler on a two year deal.

The 22 year old was the club skipper at Scarborough, who were relegated at the end of the season. Fowler started his career at Coventry City and played at Championship league level before moving to Huddersfield Town.

The signing is hoped to be the first of many, with goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson confirmed as joining from Crewe on loan and interests in Justin Richards and Tom Curtis still being pursued.

ST ALBANS WIN PLAY-OFF FINAL (07/05/06)

The Brewers will face more new opposition next season after St Albans City defeated Histon in this afternoon's play-off semi-final. The Saints won the game 2-0, and now take their place in the Nationwide Conference for the very first time.

CONFERENCE LINE-UP TAKES SHAPE (06/05/06)

Two more places in the Nationwide Conference for 2006/07 were decided today, with the Brewers set to face Oxford United and Stafford Rangers  next season.

Oxford suffered the agony of losing their league status on the final day of the season, and join Rushden & Diamonds who were already relegated. Stafford Rangers won a tense penalty shoot-out against Droylsden at the Pirelli Stadium this afternoon to set up a return to the Conference after an 11 year absence.

Histon face St Albans City tomorrow to decide who is promoted from the Nationwide South.

PLAYER NEWS (04/05/06)

Christian Moore has joined Conference North side Hucknall Town after turning down the chance to stay with the Brewers for next season. 'Moorey' will be in good company at Watnall Road where he links up with Albion Oldboys Lee Colkin and Laurie Wilson.

It has also been announced that Dale Anderson will definitely be leaving the club during the summer, however youth development defender John Brayford will be making the step up to the senior team.

Manager Nigel Clough also confirmed his interest in signing Woking striker Justin Richards and Chester midfielder Tom Curtis at this evening's AGM.

CONFERENCE NORTH PLAY OFF FINAL (04/05/06)

Droylsden face Stafford Rangers in the Nationwide Conference North play-off final at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday for the right to take their place in the Conference National next season.

Ticket details have been announced for the game, which kicks off at 3pm, with adult prices at £15 and £13 for seating and standing respectively, concessions £10 and £8.

No details have been released regarding where tickets can be purchased from, or whether supporters can simply pay on the gate.

TALBOT RETURNS TO BURTON (01/05/06)

Striker Robbie Talbot is set to make a dramatic return to Burton Albion. Robbie, and his current club Droylsden, will be competing in the Conference North Play-Off Final at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday 6th May.

The Bloods defeated Nuneaton Borough 1-0 in this afternoons semi-final, and will now face either Stafford Rangers or Harrogate Town who play tomorrow night.
