SETANTA SHIELD ROUND-UP (26/02/08)

A trip to Halifax Town in the next round of the Setanta Shield awaits the Brewers if they can triumph in their fifth round tie at Droylsden.

The Shaymen beat Nuneaton Borough 1-0 last night to take their place in the last four of the Northern Section of the competition. Aldershot Town thrashed Crawley Town 6-2 in the Southern Section and will now face Woking in the semi-final.

BREWERS TO MEET BLUES IN 'BRUM' CUP FINAL (25/02/08)

Burton Albion will face Birmingham City in the final of this season's Birmingham Senior Cup final.

The Blues beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in the semi-final this evening and will now face Nigel Clough's side for the second time this season. The Brewers beat a Birmingham City XI in a pre-season friendly back in July.

FA TROPHY SEMI-FINAL DRAW (25/02/08)

BURTON ALBION or EBBSFLEET UNITED v ALDERSHOT TOWN

YORK CITY V TORQUAY UNITED

Two legged semi-finals to be played weekend of 8/9 and 15/16 March.

A new date for the much delayed Setanta Shield match away at Droylsden has been set according to the Bloods Online Forum. The game will be played on Thursday 6th March meaning the Brewers will have to play 4 games in the space of 7 days.

BURTON ALBION 0 EBBSFLEET UNITED 0 (23/02/08)

The Brewers failed to make the most of their chances in this FA Trophy quarter-final encounter and now face a tricky replay at Stonebridge Road on Tuesday night.

CREWE KEEPER JOINS ON LOAN (21/02/08)

The Brewers have signed a goalkeeper to provide cover to Kevin Poole after the veteran stopper picked up a serious injury on Saturday.

Stuart Tomlinson, a long time target for Nigel Clough, has joined the club and goes straight into the squad for the FA Trophy game against Ebbsfleet United.

Stuart looked set to join Burton Albion at the start of the 2006/07 season but the deal fell through at the last minute after injuries to one of the senior keepers at Crewe meant that he was required as back-up. The loss of Stuart opened the door for Kevin Poole to resurrect his playing career with the Brewers and now ironically Poole's injury has handed an opportunity back to Stuart.

Stuart has made 17 first team appearances for 'The Alex' but has not played a senior game since September. He looks likely to be on the bench on Saturday for the cup game but it is not yet known whether he will be preferred to Saul Deeney in league matches.

BREWERS STARS SHINE IN ENGLAND WIN (20/02/08)

John Brayford and Shaun Harrad helped the England C team to a 2-1 win over their Welsh counterparts at Exeter City's St James Park tonight.

Both players were named in the starting line-up and played the full 90 minutes in front of a host of Football League scouts and managers.

Shaun Harrad was involved in the opening goal and continued his impressive performance with some good link up play and a string of efforts on goal. More importantly, both players came through the match unscathed and will be fit for the FA Trophy game at home to Ebbsfleet United on Saturday.

SALISBURY CITY 2 BURTON ALBION 0 (16/02/08)

The Brewers suffered a third straight away defeat in the league and allowed their play-off rivals to make up following a poor performance at Salisbury.

With a threadbare squad it was always going to be a difficult task against a side on a nine game unbeaten run. There was a debut for loan signing Paul Hurst and a recall to the starting line-up for Danny Holmes. Mark Greaves was brought in to the centre of defence with Ryan Austin dropping down to be one of only four substitutes on the bench.

The first half was very poor, with neither side producing any quality of note, and the game looked to have a 0-0 draw written all over it. It took the Brewers over an hour to muster up a shot on target, but Shaun Harrad's shot was comfortably saved.

The turning point came in the second half following the introduction of substitute Liam Feeney. His pace and power earned the corner that led to Mike Fowler's headed goal before the game was put beyond Albion's reach by a second from Robbie Matthews.

The afternoon was made worse by a serious looking injury to Kevin Poole who had to be replaced by Saul Deeney.

AT LAST......A NEW SIGNING! (15/02/08)

Nigel Clough has boosted the squad ahead of tomorrow's trip to Salisbury with the loan signing of Paul Hurst from Rotherham United.

Paul is a left sided defender and has been signed to provide cover for Aaron Webster and Dave Farrell who are both out injured. He is a one club man, having joined the Millers as a trainee in 1993 and has gone on to make almost 500 appearances for the club.

NEW DATE FOR GRAYS GAME (14/02/08)

The Blue Square Premier game away at Grays Athletic has been re-arranged for Tuesday 11th March with a 7.45pm kick off.

The home game against Weymouth has been selected for TV coverage by Setanta and subject to FA Trophy matches will be played on Sunday 16th March. If the Brewers beat Ebbsfleet in the quarter finals then the second leg of the semi-finals will instead take precedence on this weekend.

BURTON ALBION 3 DROYLSDEN 0 (12/02/08)

It was a memorable night at the Pirelli Stadium with three great goals and a late cameo appearance from Nigel Clough as the Brewers moved up to third spot in the Blue Square Premier.

SETANTA SHIELD DRAW (09/02/08)

Northern Section Semi-Final Draw

Northwich Victoria v Kidderminster Harriers or Rushden & Diamonds

Nuneaton Borough or Halifax Town v Droylsden or Burton Albion

WOKING 2 BURTON ALBION 1 (09/02/08)

The Brewers suffered back to back defeats in the league for the first time this season after losing at Kingsfield this afternoon.

BREWERS TV DATE ADDS TO FIXTURE CONFUSION (09/02/08)

Burton Albion's delayed Setanta Shield fifth round tie away at Droylsden has been moved to Tuesday 26th February to accommodate live transmission on Setanta Sports.

The decision means that the already re-arranged league game at Grays Athletic, which was due to be played on this date, will now have to be rescheduled.

The meaningless Setanta Shield competition is in danger of causing a huge fixture pile-up for the Brewers as the continue to challenge for glory in the league and FA Trophy.

A draw against Ebbsfleet United in the quarter finals of the FA Trophy would clash with the Droylsden fixture and would mean even more confusion as the replay would also be scheduled for the 26th February.

Victory against the 'Fleet' would result in two more league games having to be rescheduled as the dates for the two legged semi-final clashes with league games at Oxford United and at home to Weymouth.

HISTON 0 BURTON ALBION 1 (05/02/08)

Daryl Clare's eighth minute strike was enough to move the Brewers to within 3 games of a Wembley cup final.

DUO EARN ENGLAND CALL UP (05/02/08)

Congratulations to John Brayford and Shaun Harrad who were both named in the England C squad to face a Wales U23 side later on this month.

The match will take place at St James Park, home of Exeter City FC on Wednesday 20th February.

BIRMINGHAM SENIOR CUP NEWS (05/02/08)

Last night's second semi-final tie between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Burton Albion await the winners in the final on a date still to be announced. The Brewers should tonight find out who they will face in the 5th round of the Setanta Shield as Droylsden take on Farsley Celtic in their much delayed 4th round tie.

FA TROPHY QUARTER FINAL DRAW (04/02/08)

The draw for the last sixteen of the FA Trophy has been made, and the Brewers will face Ebbsfleet United at the Pirelli Stadium if they manage to beat Histon in tomorrow nights replay. The full draw;

Stafford Rangers or Tamworth v Aldershot Town

Rushden & Diamonds v York City

Torquay United v Crawley Town

Burton Albion or Histon v Ebbsfleet United

Ties to be played on Saturday 23 February.

BURTON ALBION 1 HISTON 1 (02/02/08)

It will be a replay on Tuesday night at the Glassworld Stadium after a dour draw in the FA Trophy.

It looked as though John McGrath's goal might be enough to win the tie despite an under par performance from the Brewers, but Luke Nightingale equalised with five minutes to go.

Another game to stretch Albion's resources further is the last thing that Nigel Clough would have wanted, and with Michael Simpson substituted with a hamstring injury, the trip to Cambridgeshire could prove to be very difficult.

In the other ties played today, the result of the day goes to Crawley Town who crushed Blue Square rivals Droylsden 8-0. Also through to the quarter finals are Torquay United, Aldershot Town, Rushden & Diamonds and Ebbsfleet United. The Staffordshire derby ended all square as Stafford Rangers and Tamworth drew 2-2, while Farsley Celtic take on York City tomorrow.
