LATEST NEWS

MANSFIELD TOWN 0 BURTON ALBION 2 (29/12/08)

Stunning strikes from Greg Pearson and Marc Goodfellow helped the Brewers extend their winning streak to 10 games and ensured they would go into 2009 ten points clear at the top of the Blue Square Premier.

BURTON ALBION 2 YORK CITY 1 (26/12/08)

The Brewers came from a goal behind to win this Boxing Day clash and now lead the Blue Square Premier by 10 points after their nearest promotion rivals slipped up.

ALTRINCHAM 1 BURTON ALBION 3 (20/12/08)

The Brewers delivered an early Christmas present to their travelling fans as they extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points.

The hosts looked to have taken the lead in the first half, but Colin Little's header was ruled out for a push. The let off spurred the Brewers on and Greg Pearson fired in from outside the area to open the scoring.

The Robins forced their way back into the game when Dale Johnson equalised before Pearson netted his 17th goal of the season from the penalty spot after Aaron Webster was upended by Stuart Coburn.

John McGrath curled in a spectacular third goal to put an extra bit of gloss to the score line.

FARSLEY CELTIC 2 BURTON ALBION 2 (AET. Burton win 3-2 on pens)

The Brewers edged through a nervy FA Trophy replay to set up a second round tie at home to Salisbury City.

Jody Banim put himself back in the managers thoughts with both Burton goals but then saw his spot kick saved as the match was finally decided on penalties.

FIXTURE RE-ARRANGEMENTS (20/12/08)

Two of Burton Albion's forthcoming league games have been re-arranged and will now be shown live on Setanta Sports.

The home match against Rushden & Diamonds will now be played on Thursday 5th February and the trip to Stonebridge Road to face Ebbsfleet United has also been brought forward by 48 hours to Thursday 12th February.

The Birmingham Senior cup match away at Tamworth has been rescheduled again and is now set to take place on Tuesday 13th January.

BURTON ALBION 1 FARSLEY CELTIC 1 (16/12/08)

A disappointing performance set up an un-wanted replay after the Brewers let a lead slip against their Blue Square North opponents.

Greg Pearson opened the scoring in the first half before the visitors equalised in the second period.

The replay will take place next Tuesday night at Throstle Nest, kick off 7.45pm.

FA TROPHY SECOND ROUND DRAW (15/12/08)

The draw for the second round of the FA Trophy has been made and the Brewers will earn a home tie against Woking or Salisbury City if they win through their delayed first round tie at home to Farsley Celtic.

WASH OUT (13/12/08)

The FA Trophy tie against Farsley Celtic has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the Pirelli Stadium.

The match will now take place on Tuesday 16 December, kick off 7.45pm.

The postponement means that the league match away at Altrincham will now definitely take place on Saturday 20th December and the trip to Tamworth in the Birmingham Senior Cup has been rescheduled to Monday 22nd December.

BURTON ALBION 3 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1 (09/12/08)

The Brewers went five points clear at the top of the Blue Square Premier league after beating Cambridge United in a thrilling encounter at the Pirelli Stadium.

John McGrath light the touch paper on an explosive night of football when he headed in the opening goal after just four minutes. Shaun Harrad added a second from the penalty spot just before half time after Keith Gilroy had been felled.

The visitors came out with more purpose in the second half and set up a nervous last thirty minutes with Rendell's goal on 63 minutes. Burton's cause was not helped just five minutes later when McGrath was given his marching orders for a second red card, but Greg Pearson sealed the win with a fine individual goal on 84 minutes.

FOREST GREEN ROVERS 2 BURTON ALBION 3 (06/12/08)

Burton stay on top of the table but were made to work hard to secure a first ever win at the New Lawn.

OLD BOYS AIM TO TOPPLE BREWERS (06/12/08)

Burton Albion travel to the New Lawn this afternoon aiming to break a Conference hoodoo and remain at the top of the table.

The Brewers have just one point to show for their six previous visits and that point was deducted by league officials for having an ineligible player in the squad.

This season's visit looks set to be no easier against a Rovers side who are currently occupying a relegation position but are currently in a good run of form in cup competitions. A convincing win against Rochdale in the second round of the FA Cup has set up a rewarding home tie with Derby County in the New Year.

Rovers yesterday announced the signing of Albion Oldboy Lee Ayres from Redditch United, and the defender goes straight into the squad to face his former team. Lee spent two seasons with the Brewers but his spell was hampered by injuries and he managed only 34 appearances. Lee will line up alongside Lee Fowler who spent one season at the Pirelli Stadium before falling out of favour.

AFC TELFORD 3 BURTON ALBION 0 (02/12/08)

"We are concentrating on the league" is the opinion of Burton Albion fans after a meek exit from the Setanta Shield.

A second string Brewers side, including new signing Scott McCubbin, lost to Blue Square North side AFC Telford. Former Albion trialist Danny Carey-Bertram scored goals either side of an Andy Brown penalty.
