STEVENAGE BOROUGH 4 BURTON ALBION 0 (31/01/09)
The
Brewers crashed out of the FA Trophy and conceded four goals at
Broadhall Way for the second time this season.
Although losing at this stage of the competition is not necessarily
a bad thing, the nature of the defeat will be a concern to the
manager and the fans that that braved the chilly conditions.
The
pitch was barely playable in places, and the swirling wind did
little to aid the match as a spectacle but the first half was an
entertaining affair for both sets of fans.
Both
teams had several good chances to score with Stevenage having a
number of efforts blocked and scrambled away by the Albion defence,
while Chris Day in the Borough goal pulled off a string of good
saves at the other end.
Steve Morison grabbed the first of his two goals before half time,
before Darren Stride diverted Mitchell Cole's shot into his own net.
Morison made it three nil on the hour mark before David Bridges
completed the rout with two minutes to go.

BURTON ALBION 2 BARROW 1 (26/01/09)
Nigel Clough was at the Pirelli Stadium to say his official farewell
to the club and he watched on as his old charges continued their
charge towards the league title.
The
Brewers dominated the game for long periods but had to wait until
after the interval to take the lead. Shaun Harrad profited from a
series of fortunate deflections in the penalty area to score his
14th goal of the season. Jake Buxton grabbed his first goal for the
club just seven minutes later to make it 2-0 but the visitors
grabbed a goal back to set up a nervous end to the game.
The
victory extended the lead at the top of the table to 17 points,
although Histon can reduce the lead to just 2 points if they win all
of their 5 games in hand.

JODY GOES ON LOAN (26/01/09)

of favour striker Jody Banim has joined Altrincham on a one month

BURTON ALBION 1 ALTRINCHAM 1 (24/01/09)
The
record breaking run came to an end, but the Brewers still managed to
extend their lead at the top of the Blue Square Premier with a
battling draw.
Any
neutral supporters at the Pirelli Stadium may have been forgiven for
thinking that the team in red and white were the league leaders as
they dominated the first half and deservedly went in ahead at the
interval.
Roy
McFarland's half time team talk certainly had an effect as Albion
started the second half in complete contrast to the first and
deservedly grabbed an equaliser on 51 minutes. Marc Goodfellow's
shot was saved by goalkeeper Stuart Coburn and Harrad was on hand to
drive the rebound into the net.
The
game ebbed and flowed and both sides had good chances to grab a
winner but anything other than a draw would have been harsh on
either side.

NEW FACE ARRIVES AT PIRELLI (19/01/09)
Former Notts County midfielder Neil MacKenzie has joined the Brewers
on trial after being released by the Meadow Lane club.
McKenzie started his career at Stoke City and played for Roy
McFarland at Cambridge United. He can also list Kidderminster,
Blackpool, Mansfield, Macclesfield, Scunthorpe United, Hereford
United and Port Vale on his CV of clubs.
He
has already made 4 appearances in the Blue Square Premier this
season during a months loan at Kidderminster.
Craig Armstrong has left the club for a second time after McFarland
decided not to offer him a deal. Armstrong returned to the club
following his release from Cheltenham but failed to impress the new
manager during the Birmingham Senior Cup defeat at Tamworth.

notched up their 12th victory in a row to remain 13 points clear at
the top of the table.

hopes of automatic promotion.

TAMWORTH 2 BURTON ALBION 1 (13/01/09)
Burton Albion's involvement in this seasons Birmingham Senior Cup
was ended at the quarter final stage at the Lamb Ground.
A
second string Albion side fell behind to an early goal but equalised
through Lee Morris. The home side took the lead again toward the end
of the first half and despite the second half introduction of Greg
Pearson, the Brewers could not find a way back into the game.
Tamworth fans will undoubtedly be celebrating as though they have
just won the World Cup, whilst the cup exit now allows Albion fans
to focus on continuing the push towards League Football.

FA TROPHY THIRD ROUND DRAW (12/01/09)
Burton Albion will have to wait until at least tomorrow night to
find out who they will face in the third round of the FA Trophy
after being drawn away at either Farnborough Town or Stevenage
Borough.
The
match at Cherrywood Road was postponed on Saturday due to a frozen
pitch and will now be played on Tuesday night.
Third round games are scheduled to take place on Saturday 31st
January, meaning the BSP game away at Weymouth will need to be

BURTON ALBION 3 SALISBURY CITY 0 (10/01/09)
The
Brewers wasted no time in erasing any doubts that they would have
any hangover from the departure of Nigel Clough by making
comfortable progress to the third round of the FA Trophy.
Aaron Webster opened the scoring with one of his trademark headers
from a corner from debutant Jamie Yates, before Marc Goodfellow gave
the home side a two goal half time lead.
The
Brewers could also afford the luxury of a missed penalty, Greg
Pearson's first failed spot kick, before Webster added his second
and Burton's third with a drilled shot from inside the penalty area.

the new year in spectacular style with a win that takes them 13

the scoring, tapping in the rebound after Greg Pearson's initial
effort was saved. The lead lasted only five minutes before Richard
Brodie equalised for the home side.
In a second half that saw
the Minstermen twice hit the Burton woodwork, it was Burton that had
the extra bit of quality to go on and win the game.
