LATEST NEWS

NORTHAMPTON TOWN 1 BURTON ALBION 1 (30/01/10)

The Brewers came within minutes of a second league double of the season but were denied by Andy Holt's late equaliser.

It was an entertaining game with chances for both teams but it was Shaun Harrad that scored the opening goal in the 52nd minute, turning and shooting inside the area.

The visitors piled on the pressure after the goal, hitting the woodwork on two occasions, before Holt's late goal earned the Cobblers a point that they just about deserved.

BYE BYE BRANSTON (29/01/10)

Defender Guy Branston has joined Torquay United on loan until the end of the season.

Branston has had an up and down time with the Brewers during his 23 appearances. Two red cards and six yellow cards have seen him serve three periods of suspension and he lost his place in the team to on loan defender Tom Parkes.

Guy has not been a favourite with some sections of the Albion fans due to his inconsistency on the field, however there is no doubt that he played with passion and looked to always be trying to give 100%. Maybe for the wrong reasons, Guy Branston will be remembered as an Albion Oldboy, and CTMD would like to wish him all the best with his new club.

BURTON ALBION 1 LINCOLN CITY 0 (27/01/10)

Cleveland Taylor's goal after just 54 seconds was enough to earn the Brewers their first midweek win of the season.

Taylor fired in an unstoppable volley from the edge of the area after a great cross from home debutant Tom Parkes. Shaun Harrad saw a shot hit the post as Albion pressed for a second goal and the visitors were also denied by the woodwork just before the break.

Lincoln came out in more positive mood in the second half and Artur Krysiak was called into action to deny an equaliser. Hearts were in mouths in the five minutes of added time as Krysiak produced a late save but the points were safe and Albion moved up to 13th place in League 2.

ALBION OLDBOY JOINS QUAKERS (26/01/10)

Former Brewers goalkeeper Shane Redmond has joined League 2 rivals Darlington on a month's loan.

Redmond made five appearances for Burton on loan from Nottingham Forest but returned to his parent club in December after breaking his hand in the 2-2 draw at Rotherham.

RAMS CUP RUN COULD MEAN FIXTURE CHANGE (24/01/10)

Derby County have been drawn at home to Birmingham City in the fifth round of the FA Cup, with the match due to take place on 13th or 14th February.

The Brewers are scheduled to host Crewe Alexandra on Saturday 13th and the match will no doubt be moved if it clashes with the Rams as the two clubs share stewards.

NORTHAMPTON AWAY TICKET NEWS (24/01/10)

There are no advance ticket sales for Burton Albion fans making the trip to Northampton on Saturday.

Tickets can be purchased on the day from a portakabin by the away turnstiles. No cash is accepted at the gate.

Prices are £19, concessions £15, U16 £12 and U7 free.

TORQUAY UNITED 2 BURTON ALBION 3 (23/01/10)

The Brewers came back from going two goals down in the first 15 minutes to record an excellent victory.

Plainmoor holds special memories for Albion fans after promotion to the Football League was secured there last season, and this victory will also long remembered.

Poor defending allowed the home side to race into a two goal lead but it was a strike of quality that got Burton back into the game. A Kevin Poole goal kick fell to Russell Penn, and the midfielder lashed a 25 yard effort into the net.

Shaun Harrad scored an equaliser in the second half with another fine strike, firing in after Aaron Webster headed Paul Boertien's free kick into his path.

The winner came with just six minutes to go and was a goal fit to settle any match. Cleveland Taylor picked up the ball just inside the Torquay half and rand towards goal, evading two tackles, before smashing his shot into the goal from the edge of the area.

SECOND LOAN DEAL FOR BREWERS (22/01/10)

There will be another new face in the Burton Albion line up tomorrow after the loan signing of Leicester City defender Tom Parkes.

Parkes, 18, is a defender who has been impressive in the Foxes academy and reserve side but has yet to make a senior appearance.

RAMS STOPPER JOINS ON LOAN (21/01/10)

The Brewers have signed Derby County goalkeeper Ross Atkins ahead of the weekend trip to Torquay.

Burton have only veteran Kevin Poole available for the match after Artur Krysiak's red card means he is suspended for one game.

Atkins was at the Pirelli Stadium during pre-season, making two appearances, but returned to Pride Park after manager Paul Peschisolido opted to take Shane Redmond on loan from Nottingham Forest. Ross has joined the club on loan for one month and will be available for the League 2 match at Plainmoor on Saturday.

PORT VALE 3 BURTON ALBION 1 (19/01/10)

The Brewers ended the match with 10 men for the second time in four days after Artur Krysiak was shown a straight red card to cap a miserable night.

Debutant defender O'Neil Thompson was given a torrid time as the home side took an early lead through Marc Richards. Albion equalised with a Shaun Harrad penalty after Cleveland Taylor was hauled down in the box but Vale went back in front when Sean Rigg capitalised on more poor defending.

Burton had chances to get back into the game, with Harrad hitting a post just seconds into the start of the second half but the hosts ensured victory after Thompson conceded a spot kick and Richards bagged his second goal from the spot.

Richard Walker blazed a shot over the bar from close range before Krysiak was given his marching orders for a professional foul.

DEFENDER JOINS ON LOAN (18/01/10)

The Brewers have signed Jamacian international defender O'Neil Thompson on loan from Barnsley on a one month deal. With Guy Branston suspended and Aaron Webster, Ryan Austin, Darren Stride and Richard Jackson all injured, the Albion back line is down to the bare bones.

Thompson, 26, has played 21 times for his country but has only played two senior games of football in England. He joined Barnsley from Norwegian side Notodden FK but has made one one start and one substitute appearance for the Tykes.

BURTON ALBION 1 SHREWSBURY TOWN 1 (16/01/10)

The Brewers battled back to earn a point despite being down to 10 men for almost an hour. Greg Pearson capped an excellent second half performance by the home side with his 76th minute strike equalising Dave Hibbert's first half header.

Albion will have to reshuffle the defence for Tuesday night's trip to Port Vale after Guy Branston's red card and an injury to Richard Jackson. Branston got his marching orders after two bookings in four minutes, the second for a reckless elbow on Paul Murray.

MATCH ON (16/01/10)

The match against Shrewsbury Town at the Pirelli Stadium this afternoon will go ahead after a 10am pitch inspection deemed that the surface is playable.

KABBA DEAL EXTENDED AND NEW SIGNING (14/01/10)

Paul Peschisolido has boosted the squad ahead of Saturday's game against Shrewsbury with the news that Steve Kabba will remain at the club until the end of the season.

Kabba has scored three goals since joining from Brentford in December but looked as he might be heading back to Griffin Park as his parent club wanted a fee from the Brewers to secure his services.

Steve will now remain with Burton for the rest of this season and will be joined by fellow Bee's team mate Cleveland Taylor.

Cleveland, a 26 year old winger, has also joined on loan until the end of the season. He started his career with Bolton Wanderers and can list Exeter City, Scarborough, Scunthorpe United and Carlisle United as his former clubs.

BIRMINGHAM SENIOR CUP NEWS (09/01/10)

The quarter final tie away at Romulus has been scheduled to take place on Tuesday 2nd February 2010.

MORECAMBE GAME OFF (07/01/10)

Saturday's League 2 fixture at Morecambe has been postponed after a pitch inspection today ruled that the pitch is unplayable.

This latest cancellation means the Brewers are without a game until Saturday 16th January when Shrewsbury Town are due to visit the Pirelli Stadium.

The match has been re-arranged for Tuesday 16th February with a 7:45pm kick off.

LINCOLN GAME MOVED AGAIN (04/01/10)

The League 2 fixture at home to Lincoln City has been moved again due to a clash with Derby County's FA Cup replay.

The match was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday 2nd January but needed to be moved due to Lincoln's involvement in the FA Cup.

The match was rescheduled to Tuesday 12th January but this now clashes with Derby's FA Cup replay against Millwall.

The game against Lincoln is now due to take Wednesday 27th January with a 7:45pm kick off (unless Derby U12's have a kick around on that night!)

PORT VALE GAME RE-ARRANGED (31/12/09)

The away league game at Port Vale has been rescheduled for Tuesday 19th January with a 7:45pm kick off.

The game was originally due to take place on Boxing Day but was postponed due to the freezing weather.

BURTON ALBION 1 NOTTS COUNTY 4 (28/12/09)

A hat-trick from Lee Hughes was the difference between the two teams in an entertaining game at the Pirelli Stadium.

The visitors had early chances to take the lead and did go ahead in the 13th minute when a long range effort from Ricky Ravenhill managed to avoid everyone in a crowded penalty area and hit the back of the net.

The Brewers had chances to pull level, including a Greg Pearson thunderbolt which crashed against the crossbar, before Steve Kabba equalised. A Tony James free kick was headed on by Aaron Webster and Kabba was in the right place to stick out a leg to poke the ball in.

It looked as though the half would end on level terms but Hughes profited from hesitation in the Albion defence to score the first of his goals.

Three minutes after the break and it was 3-1 to County as Hughes raced onto a perfect through ball to beat Krysiak from inside the area. Hughes completed his hat-trick just minutes later, converting the spot kick that was awarded when he was hauled down in the box by Krysiak.

The Brewers had a late chance to reduce the deficit with a penalty of their own when substitute Shaun Harrad was hauled down in the box but Kabba's strike was expertly saved by Kasper Schmiechal.

PAY ON THE DAY FOR NOTTS MATCH (27/12/09)

Burton Albion have announced that 1500 terrace tickets still remain for Monday's home clash with Notts County.

The remaining tickets will be available for sale on the day of the game from the turnstiles. The match has been designated as an all ticket game and the visitors sold their allocation several weeks ago.

This decision by the club has angered some fans and may well lead to visiting supporters gaining access to the home sections of the stadium.

MATCH OFF (26/12/09)

The match at Port Vale this afternoon has been postponed due to a frozen pitch. An inspection at 11:30 this morning found that although 80% of the surface is playable, the remaining 20% is still heavily frozen and is not fit for play.

The Brewers have now been without a game for two weeks and now turn their attentions to the visit of Notts County to the Pirelli Stadium on Monday (weather permitting).

BREWERS EXTEND LOAN DEALS (24/12/09)

Albion fans have been given an early Christmas present with the news that Artur Krysiak and Steve Kabba have agreed to stay at the club.

Goalkeeper Krysiak has had his deal extended after several weeks of contract negotiations.

It had looked as though the Polish U18 stopper would be returning to Birmingham City at the end of the year leaving the Brewers with Kevin Poole as the only recognised keeper at the Pirelli Stadium. However an agreement has been reached and Artur will now stay until the end of the season.

Steve Kabba has also had his loan spell extended, and the striker will now be with the Brewers until the end of January.

Kabba has made four appearances, scoring two goals, and has forged an impressive partnership with Greg Pearson.

Three players look to be leaving the club though with no new deals being offered to Kieron Cadogan, Serge Makofo and Aaron Brown.

MATCH OFF (19/12/09)

The League 2 match away at Cheltenham Town has been postponed after a morning pitch inspection. The Whaddon Road surface is frozen despite the best efforts of the club to keep the game on.

A new date for the fixture will be announced.

BURTON ALBION 6 ALDERSHOT TOWN 1 (13/12/09)

The Brewers smashed six goals in a league game for the first time since November 2001 as they tore apart high flying Aldershot Town.

No one could have predicted this result, especially as the visitors looked the more dangerous during the opening exchanges. However once Greg Pearson opened the Burton goal account in the 31st minute from the penalty spot, then there was only going to be one winner.

Pearson added his second goal eight minutes later and looked to on course for his hat-trick but his shot was saved by the Shots keeper but the ball rebounded onto the chest of Steve Kabba and into the net.

Pearson did get his third goal with a header after Tony James had flicked on a corner and it was 4-0 to Albion at halftime.

The visitors did threaten to stage a fightback after Joel Grant headed past Artur Krysiak to make it 4-1 and Chris Blackburn hit the post as the Burton defence had a brief wobble.

The rout continued though when Kabba added his second and Burton's fifth with a tap in following a good cross from Keith Gilroy and Kabba turned provider to set up Harrad to notch Albion's sixth goal.

ROTHERHAM UNITED 2 BURTON ALBION 2 (05/12/09)

The Brewers responded to the criticism handed out after Tuesday nights defeat to Accrington with a battling draw at the Don Valley Stadium.

Paul Peschisolido described the midweek performance as a “shambles” and made several changes in personnel ahead of this game against promotion chasing Rotherham. Darren Stride came in for the suspended Guy Branston, the wide midfield positions were taken by Aaron Webster and Keith Gilroy and Greg Pearson started in attack with Steve Kabba. Richard Jackson was handed his debut in the right back berth.

The revised formation had an immediate effect and produced flowing passing football which had the home side on the back foot for much of the first half.

Greg Pearson and Steve Kabba both had half chances to score but did not do enough to trouble the Millers keeper. As in too many games this season, the failure to take chances came back to haunt Albion as the home side took the lead against the run of play.

Paul Boertien was ruled to have handled a cross into the Burton box and the “goal machine” Adam Le Fondre stepped up to blast the penalty past Shane Redmond.

The second half started much like the first and it looked like an equaliser would come, but a uncharacteristic mistake from Darren Stride looked to have cost Albion the game. 'Stridey' decided to leave a ball into the box for his goalkeeper but Le Fondre nipped in and grabbed his second goal of the game.

Just two minutes later and it was another Burton stalwart that got the Brewers back into the game. Aaron Webster was the quickest to react after Steve Kabba completely fluffed his effort on goal and 'Webby' smashed the ball into the net.

The game turned further in the favour of the visitors when Nick Fenton was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Webster.

With an extra man there was extra space for players to get forward and Keith Gilroy wasted a great chance to equalise but his header sailed wide of the goal.

With six minutes to go the scores were level. Shaun Harrad played the ball across the United penalty area and Greg Pearson fired in a low shot to earn a well deserved point.

BREWERS BRING IN JACKSON (04/12/09)

Paul Peschisolido has signed former Derby County defender Richard Jackson to ease the defensive problems at the club.

The Brewers have been without a recognised right back following the injuries to Andy Corbett and Ryan Austin, and Aaron Brown has looked uncomfortable in that position in the last two games.

Richard Jackson, a former team-mate of the Albion manager, has joined on a one month loan deal and goes straight into the squad to face Rotherham United tomorrow.

Jackson was on trial with the Brewers earlier in the season but was not offered a deal at the time.

He started his career at Scarborough before his move to the Rams. He later went on to play for Luton Town and Hereford United.

Richard has certainly be signed for his defensive qualities and not for his goal scoring ability. In over 300 appearances he has failed to hit the back of the net once!

BURTON ALBION 0 ACCRINGTON STANLEY 2 (01/12/09)

A very poor performance from the Brewers resulted in a third home league defeat of the season against "dirty Accy Stanley".

The visitors took only five minutes to get a name in the referee's notebook, but this Accrington team also had some good passing football and an organised defence.

Burton flattered to deceive in the early stages but never really looked likely to score, but with Branston and Brown having shockers at the back, they always looked likely to concede.

A headed goal from Billy Kee, the smallest man on the pitch, just before half time showed just how vunerable the Albion back line is. The deficit at the break could have been much higher without a couple of fine saves from Shane Redmond.

The second half saw much of the same pattern of play and the visitors doubled their advantage in the 75th minute when Michael Symes tapped in from close range.

Brewers v Accrington Stanley Preview (30/11/09)

The Brewers "welcome" old foes Accrington Stanley to the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night.

A Burton Albion versus Accrington Stanley fixture is a relatively new addition to the football calendar, but already a large rivalry has built up between the two clubs.

There have been only 10 meetings since the first match in the Unibond League in October 2001, but these games have been filled with incident and the 11th meeting is one of the most anticipated amongst Albion fans.

The Brewers held the upper hand in the early exchanges with four points taken from the Reds during the march to promotion to the Conference.

Stanley followed Albion to the top level of non-league football the following season and managed to stay unbeaten in the next half dozen league games.

It was not just the defeats that make Albion fans want to gain revenge over Accrington, but it is the nature of the way that these have been "won". Manager John Coleman has always instilled a tough tackling mentality in his teams which some people may almost call "cheating".

The fact that the visitors will have two players suspended for this game is therefore probably no surprise. Striker John Miles starts a three match ban after being red carded for a dangerous tackle in the FA Cup draw with Barnet on Saturday, whilst midfielder Robert Grant also misses out after picking up his 5th booking of the season.

The Brewers will be without Ryan Austin after the defender was carried off with a knee injury on Saturday. The squad could be boosted though by the return of Paul Boertien and Artur Krysiak, although both players may have to settle for a place on the bench.

GILLINGHAM 1 BURTON ALBION 0 (28/11/09)

The FA Cup dream is over for another year as the Brewers went down by a single goal at League One Gillingham.

The home side had the best of the game at the start of the first half but Albion grew in confidence as the scores remained level.

A double substitution by Gills manager Mark Stimson had an immediate impact as John Nutter's long ball found it's way to Curtis Weston, and he rifled his shot into the bottom corner.

The Brewers could not find a way back into the game but the players can be pleased with the performance against a good side. The game was marred by a serious knee injury to Ryan Austin which saw the full back stretchered from the field.

ALBION GRABBA KABBA (26/11/09)

Paul Peschisolido has boosted the squad ahead of the weekend clash with Gillingham with the capture of striker Steve Kabba on loan from Brentford.

Kabba, a former team mate of the Albion manager, has played at the top level of English football with Sheffield United and Watford and also has commanded £750,000 in transfer fees.

Steve has made 12 appearances for the Bees this season but his only recent first team action has been a substitute appearance against Walsall last Saturday.

CREWE ALEXANDRA 2 BURTON ALBION 1 (24/11/09)

Burton Albion suffered their third straight away defeat at a very wet and windy Alexandra Stadium.

The home side dominated the first half and the Albion defence struggled to cope with the pace and movement of the Crewe forward line. Clayton Donaldson gave Alex the lead when he curled in a superb shot from the edge of the area and Joel Grant doubled the advantage after just 19 minutes.

Paul Peschisolido changed the personnel and tactics in the second half although it took until added time for the decision to finally pay off. Richard Walker headed in a late consolation goal but it was too little, too late.

BURTON ALBION 3 HEREFORD UNITED 2 (21/11/09)

The Brewers got back to winning ways with a thrilling victory at the Pirelli Stadium.

Paul Peschisolido made changes to the side that lost at Darlington last week with Russell Penn starting in place of Jacques Maghoma, and new signing Kieron Cadogan took the place of Richard Walker.

The first half ended goalless despite both sides creating good chances, but the second half certainly came to life after just five minutes. Shaun Harrad found himself with time and space in the Bulls penalty area and was able to pick his spot to score the opening goal.

The lead lasted only a few minutes before Leon Constantine headed in the equaliser after poor Albion defending. Constantine then turned from hero to villain as his handball in the area enabled Harrad to score his second goal from the penalty spot.

Constantine atoned for his misdemeanour by grabbing his second goal to level the scores again but the home side snatched a dramatic late win when Aaron Webster headed in the winner from John McGrath's free kick.

LOAN SIGNING BOOSTS BREWERS (20/11/09)

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock has come to the aid of his former club by allowing Kieron Cadogan to join the Brewers on loan.

Kieron is a 19 year old right winger who is highly regarded after making the step up to the Eagles first team after a string of impressive performances in the reserves.

He scored a goal on his Palace debut last season, scoring the equaliser against Coventry City after coming on as a substitute.

DARLINGTON 1 BURTON ALBION 0 (14/11/09)

A lacklustre performance from the Brewers ended in defeat to rock bottom Darlington at the Northern Echo Arena.

The home side took the lead in the 6th minute and then proceeded to frustrate Albion for the remainder of the game.

BOLDMERE ST MICHAELS 0 BURTON ALBION 3 (10/11/09)

The Brewers progressed into the third round of the Birmingham Senior Cup thanks to a hat-trick from Greg Pearson.

FA CUP SECOND ROUND DETAILS (10/11/09)

Ticket details for the second round tie away at Gillingham have been announced. The prices are as follows;

Adults £15, Concessions £10, U16 £5.

Albion fans will be allocated seats in the Brian Moore Stand. This is an uncovered stand behind one goal. Full away guide to Gillingham to follow.

BURTON ALBION 3 OXFORD CITY 2 (08/11/09)

The PA system belted out "Proud" at the final whistle, but "Lucky" by Britney Spears would have been more appropriate after this unconvincing win.

Burton Albion progressed to the second round of the FA Cup but were made to fight all the way by the visitors.

The Blues line-up included two former Brewers and the old adage of a player scoring against his former club came true after just six minutes when Michael Alexis capitalised on a poor clearance from Guy Branston to score from the edge of the area.

The visitors rarely looked like a side that was three leagues below their hosts, but that was as much to do with their good play as it was to do with Burton’s poor play.

Ironically it was one of Oxford’s most experienced players that handed Albion a lifeline back into the game. David Perpetuini, once a Premiership player with Watford, needlessly barged Shaun Harrad in the back as a cross came into the box and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Harrad picked himself up to score the equaliser but it took until the last minute of the first half for the Brewers to take the lead. Jacques Maghoma finished off a passing move to slot the ball in at the far post to make it 2-1 at the break.

The goal could have broken the spirit of the non-leaguers but it seemed to galvanise them and they came out fighting in the second half.

Greg Pearson could have put the game out of reach within seconds of the restart but his header was saved, and ten minutes later the scores were level again. A long throw in was not dealt with in the Albion penalty area and Jamie Brooks was left free to head the ball past Artur Krysiak.

City continued to press for a third goal and it looked as though a cup shock was on the cards.

Paul Peschisolido threw Serge Makofo on as a substitute with just five minutes to go and the change almost backfired as the striker lost possession on the edge of his own area and almost cost a goal.

However Makofo’s introduction did eventually pay dividends when his pace forced City fullback Andy Ballard into a rash challenge which earned him a red card and the Brewers a free kick.

Michael Simpson delivered the free kick into the penalty area and Ryan Austin headed in the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

The Brewers will be looking to avoid a cup upset when they face Zamaretto Premier League side Oxford City at the Pirelli Stadium.

Burton Albion begin their journey on the road to Wembley for the first time as a Football League club tomorrow.

As a non-league club the Brewers know all about giant killings, with Aldershot, Peterborough and Torquay United amongst their list of league scalps. They also know a thing or two about shock exits at the hands of lower placed opposition, and so although there are three leagues between the two clubs, Oxford City cannot be taken lightly.

All the ingredients are in the mix for a potential cup shock. The visitors have two former Albion players in their ranks, and Paul Peschisolido's squad is down to the bare bones after a string of injuries to key players.

The Blues will have goalkeeper Richard Knight and midfielder Michael Alexis in the team tomorrow, but many Burton fans might struggle to remember seeing either of them in an Albion shirt.

Knight made one appearance as a substitute in a Southern League match at Salisbury but was red carded as the Brewers went down 2-0. Alexis did manage to start a match but was substituted after just 30 minutes when he was sacrificed following the sending off of goalkeeper Dan Crane. Neither player made another appearance and now both find themselves facing Albion with a point to prove.

They will face a side which is expected to be without Paul Boertien, John McGrath and Andy Corbett through injury. Paul Peschisolido has able replacements with Aaron Webster, Russell Penn and Jacques Maghoma set to deputise.

BURTON ALBION 0 BURY 0 (31/10/09)

The two sides failed to conjure up a Halloween thriller as they played out a goalless draw at the Pirelli Stadium.

Paul Peschisolido rang the changes following last weekend's defeat at Chesterfield with Shaun Harrad, Russell Penn and Jimmy Phillips all restored to the starting line up.

Both sides tried to play passing football but there was very little end product and neither keeper was seriously tested. The visitors best effort rattled the woodwork and Shaun Harrad also had an effort tipped over the crossbar.

The point keeps the Brewers in 11th place in League 2, just three points off the play-off places.

CUP CLASH DATE CHANGED (26/10/09)

The FA Cup first round tie at home to Oxford City has been moved to Sunday 8th November due to a seminar at the Pirelli Stadium on the original scheduled date.

The draw against a team three leagues below the Brewers has hardly sent the pulses racing, and the change of date may result in a much reduced attendance for what should be an important game.

Admission charges for adults and over 65's have been lowered for this game, however children's prices have been kept at standard league rates.

FA CUP FIRST ROUND DRAW (25/10/09)

The Brewers will host Oxford City in the First Round of the FA Cup, with the game to be played at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday 7th November.

City currently play in the Southern League Premier Division and have some familiar faces in their squad. Albion oldboy Michael Alexis could line up against his former club, and the visitors could also include several players with football league experience including Dave Savage and David Perpetuini.

The two sides have met before, also in the FA Cup in 1978. Oxford visited Eton Park in a pre-qualifying round match and left with a 1-0 victory.

CHESTERFIELD 5 BURTON ALBION 2 (24/10/09)

The Brewers conceded five goals to Chesterfield for the second time this season as they were outplayed and outclassed at Saltergate.

The home side capitalised on poor defending to take a two goal lead in the first half, and despite dominating the game could not extend their advantage.

Aaron Webster pulled a goal back with a long range strike to give the travelling fans hope of a comeback, but the Spirerites scored again almost immediately and hit a fourth goal with a minute to go.

Shaun Harrad made it 4-2 when he scored with a cheeky back heel but Chesterfield restored their margin of victory with a fifth goal just seconds later.

BURTON ALBION 2 BARNET 0 (17/10/09)

Goals from Jaques Maghoma and Ryan Austin wrapped up a third successive league win, and a first home win over Barnet for more than three decades.

Maghoma made the starting line up after John McGrath was held up in traffic on the way to the game, and he seized his opportunity with a low strike from the edge of the area to open the scoring.

Barnet rarely threatened to get anything from the game and the points were made safe when Austin's powerful free kick was diverted past Cole in the visitors goal.

BIRMINGHAM SENIOR CUP DRAW (16/10/09)

The draw for the second round of the Birmingham Senior Cup has been made and the Brewers have been handed an away trip to Boldmere St Michaels.

The Mikes beat Walsall in the first round and will now face Burton for the second successive season. A Lee Morris goal was enough for the Brewers to make progress last season before bowing out of the competition against Tamworth.

GRIMSBY TOWN 1 BURTON ALBION 2 (10/10/09)

The Brewers came back from a goal down to record their second away win in the Football League.

The home side took the lead when Artur Krysiak's attempted clearance struck the back of Chris Jones and rebounded into the net.

Andy Corbett levelled the scores in the tenth minute when he finished off a sweeping move before Jimmy Phillips bagged the winner just after the half hour.

The Mariners launched a second half assault on Burton's goal but could not find an equaliser, despite six minutes of time added on at the end.

COLESHILL TOWN 1 BURTON ALBION 4 (06/10/09)

The Brewers secured safe passage in the Birmingham Senior Cup with a comfortable win.

Greg Pearson scored a hat-trick, including two penalties, with Aaron Webster adding a late fourth goal.

Keith Gilroy continued his comeback from injury with his first appearance of the season, and there was a surprise late cameo from assistant manager Gary Rowett.

SHROOT BACK TO BRUM (06/10/09)

Birmingham City winger Robin Shroot has had his season long loan deal with the Brewers ended by 'mutual consent' today and the player has returned to his parent club.

Shroot made seven appearances for Albion, his last being in the match away at Bournemouth last month. He was substituted in that game and openly showed his disagreement with the decision as he left the pitch.

Robin was left on the bench for Sunday's win at home to Rochdale and it would appear that the relationship between player and manager has broken down, leaving no option for Paul Peschisolido than to send Shroot back to the Blues.

BIRMINGHAM SENIOR CUP PREVIEW (06/10/09)

The Brewers kick off this years competition with a trip to Pack Meadow to face Coleshill Town.

The tie against the Midland Alliance club will give the players on the fringes of the first team a chance to impress. Keith Gilroy is in line to make his first competitive start of the season along with defender Aaron Brown.

The ground address for those fans making the trip is Pack Meadow, Packington Lane, Coleshill, B46 3JQ. The match kicks off at 7:45pm.

BURTON ALBION 1 ROCHDALE 0 (04/10/09)

The Brewers got back to winning ways as Richard Walker's third minute strike was enough to see off high flying Rochdale.

Paul Peschisolido made changes to the side after the disappointing draw against Macclesfield bringing in Guy Branston, Andy Corbett, and Jimmy Phillips. The  effect was immediate as Burton scored with their first attack, Walker scoring via a deflection after a good cross from Pearson.

Rochdale looked lively in attack but never really produced a telling effort on Artur Krysiak's goal.
