CARLING CUP TICKET NEWS (23/06/09)

Ticket prices for the Carling Cup match away at Reading have been announced with both clubs agreeing to reduced admission.

The match will take place on Tuesday 11th August with a 8pm kick off and Brewers fans can watch the game for just £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

DEENEY DEPARTS (20/06/09)

Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido will be stepping up his search for a new goalkeeper following the news that Saul Deeney has rejected the new contract offer from the Brewers.

Deeney spent two spells with the Brewers, initially joining from Notts County in October 2005. He earned himself cult status at the club with his last minute save against Manchester United in the FA Cup that set up the money spinning replay at Old Trafford.

Saul turned down his contract offer at the end of his first season and left the club, returning in October 2007 as understudy to Kevin Poole.

Poole's excellent form restricted Deeney to only eight league starts last season and with no guarantee of a starting place next season, he has opted to leave.

BREWERS START LEAGUE LIFE ON THE ROAD (17/06/09)

The fixture list for the 2009/10 season has been released and Burton Albion will start the league campaign away from home.

The season kicks off on Saturday 8th August with the Brewers facing Shrewsbury Town at the Prostar Stadium. The Shrews just missed out on promotion to League 1 last season, losing in the play-off final to Gillingham.

The first league match at the Pirelli Stadium is on Saturday 15th August when Morecambe are the visitors.

The season ends on Saturday 8th May with the Brewers facing a home tie against Grimsby Town.

CARLING CUP FIRST ROUND DRAW (16/06/09)

The Brewers have been handed the most difficult possible introduction to the Football League Cup with the first round draw handing them a trip to face Reading.

The Royals reached the Coca Cola Championship play-off's last season, losing at the semi-final stage to Burnley, and were a Premiership side just two years ago.

No date for the game has been set but the tie is scheduled to take place during week commencing 10th August.

SHROOT TO SHOOT INTO BREWERS (12/06/09)

A deal to bring Birmingham City midfielder Robin Shroot to the Pirelli Stadium on a season long loan looks set to be confirmed next week.

21 year old Shroot joined the Blues in January from Harrow Borough and made his full debut for the club in the FA Cup defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers. He spent a month on loan at Walsall, making five substitute appearances, and now joins the Brewers to gain league experience.

DEADLINE FOR DITHERING DEENEY (10/06/09)

Goalkeeper Saul Deeney has been handed an ultimatum by manager Paul Peschisolido, "Sign up or ship out!".

Deeney has so far stalled over accepting his new contract offer and faces being shown the door as the Brewers put a squad together for life in the Football League.

Deeney has a track record of dithering and nearly missed Albion's FA Cup replay at Old Trafford due agreed to sign a new deal just days before the game.

Saul actually joined the Brewers after he allowed his contract at Notts County to lapse and his failure to put pen to paper saw the Magpies sign a new keeper leaving Deeney surplus to requirements.

With the availability of Kevin Poole also uncertain due to his commitments as a coach at Birmingham City, the Brewers could start the new season with at least two new keepers at the club come the start of the season.

CARLING CUP DRAW NEWS (09/06/09)

Burton Albion will find out who they will face in their first ever Carling Cup match when the draw for the first round is announced on June 16th.

The Brewers have been placed in the southern section of the draw, therefore missing out on potential money spinning clashes with Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City.

The draw throws up some potentially interesting clashes such as a match up against former manager Neil Warnock at Crystal Palace or the opportunity to play foreign opposition in the form of Cardiff City and Swansea.

PESCH MAKES FIRST SIGNING (08/06/09)

Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido has made Paul Boertien his first new signing as the Brewers prepare for life in the Football League.

Boertien, 30, joins the club on a one year deal following his release from Walsall. Paul started his career with Carlisle United before moving to Derby County in a £250,000 deal. He made over 100 appearances for the Rams during an 8 year spell.

Paul spent time on loan at Crewe, Notts County and Chesterfield before joining the Saddlers in July 2007.

Although recognised mainly as a left back, Paul is a versatile player that should be able to operate in a number of positions.
