WARD IS TOP TARGET FOR BREWERS POST (10/05/09)
Former Carlisle United manager John Ward is the top candidate to
fill the managerial vacancy according to an insider at the club.
Despite a long list of names being mentioned by fans and bookmakers,
the only serious contenders appear to be Ward and Oxford United
manager Chris Wilder.
After being refused permission to speak to Wilder, Albion chairman
Ben Robinson will now turn his attention to Ward but will face
competition for his services from Port Vale and Chesterfield.

BYE BYE BUXTON (10/05/09)
Jake
Buxton looks set to sign for Derby County this week with Rams boss
Nigel Clough claimed that the player "would walk over broken glass"
to play for the club.
Buxton, who picked up the player of the season award for the Brewers
this season, is at the top of the wanted list at Pride Park and can
leave the Pirelli Stadium on a free transfer.
Jake
joined Burton in the summer after his former club, Mansfield Town,
decided against offering him a contract. He missed the first three
games of the season due to suspension but was a virtual ever present
in the remaining matches, playing a key role in helping the Brewers
to the league title.

BAKER INTERVIEWED FOR ALBION JOB (05/05/09)
It
has been reported by BBC Radio Stoke that Crewe Alexandra assistant
boss Neil Baker has been interviewed for the managers role at the
Pirelli Stadium.
It
is believed that Baker was interviewed on Friday after being
recommended by Nigel Clough.
Baker has been part of the coaching staff at Crewe for 15 years and
was previously manager at Leek Town.
Baker would probably be a surprise appointment in the role as he has
never been a manager in the football league before, apart from a
brief spell in a caretaker role at Crewe in 2003.

MAC STEPS DOWN FROM MANAGER ROLE (01/05/09)
Roy
McFarland has decided not to continue his role as manager of Burton
Albion following a meeting with chairman Ben Robinson.
Although Roy managed the Brewers to the Blue Square league title,
the 13 point lead that he inherited from Nigel Clough was lost after
a string of poor performances and the championship was only wrapped
up on the final day of the season.
Albion fans will always be grateful to McFarland for his
contribution to the club, but he was not seen as the right person to
lead the team in their first ever season in the Football League.
It
is not clear yet whether Roy will stay at the Pirelli Stadium in a
different capacity, but the immediate priority for Burton Albion is
the recruitment of a permanent manager.

WE ARE FOOTBALL
LEAGUE, WE ARE FOOTBALL LEAGUE!

Burton Albion have finally been crowned as
champions of the Blue Square Premier and next season will take their
place in the Football League for the first time in their history.
Despite losing 2-1 at Torquay, Cambridge's
draw at home to Altrincham meant that the Brewers could not be
caught.
Albion took an early lead when Marc
Goodfellow capitalised on a poor defensive clearance to fire the
ball into the net. The goal did little to calm the nerves though and
the home side were back on level terms just five minutes later.
Gulls skipper Chris Hargreaves smashed the
equaliser from the edge of the area and the home side started to
take control of the game.
Although Brewers fans were keeping their
eyes on the action on the pitch, all ears were listening out for the
latest score from the Trade Recruitment Stadium. With the U's being
held, a draw for Burton would be enough to take the title.
However the nerves of the 1000+ travelling
fans were shattered when Benyon headed Torquay into the lead just 60
seconds after the break.
Burton never looked as though they were
going to get back into the game, but as news filtered through from
Cambridge, the celebrations started and the pitch invasions started
as the final whistle blew.
